Royal College’s Tharul Pinwatte claims Under-17 Title and Under-19 Bronze at YETI Open Squash Championship

COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Royal College’s Tharul Pinnwatte emerged as the Under-17 Champion at the YETI Open Squash Championship, an annual event organized by Sri Lanka Squash and proudly sponsored by YETI Isotonic. The tournament, held at the Air Force Squash Complex in Ratmalana.

In a thrilling final, Pinnwatte, a key player for Royal College’s senior squash team, defeated Mohammed Rilwan of St. Joseph’s College to claim the top spot. Rilwan, who put up a strong fight, secured the runner-up position in this year’s Under-17 category.

Tharul Pinwatte’s impressive performance extended beyond his victory in the Under-17 championship. He also competed in the Under-19 category, where he secured third place trophy. This achievement further highlights his exceptional talent and versatility in the sport.

Pinwatte, a Royal College squash coloursman has represented Sri Lanka for three consecutive years in the Asian Junior Squash Championship, competing in Pakistan this year, China last year, and Bangkok in 2022. His commitment to the sport is further highlighted by his regular participation in the Red Tone tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Manuth Dassanayake of Gateway College Colombo claimed third place, while Royal College’s Kemitha Hapuarachchi also made a mark by reaching the semi-finals in the Under-17 category.

Thinuga Perera, Linuka Perera, and Sandanu Gunaratne from DS Senanayake College secured the fifth, sixth, and seventh positions, respectively. Royal College’s Sheron Sudharkaran rounded out the top eight in this competitive age category.
