BANGKOK, Thailand, (ePRESS) – Rushalee Dissanayake capped the 12th Asian Age Group Swimming Championship by breaking the country’s Under-17 National Age Group record in the women’s 1,500m freestyle, while national record holder MF Muhammad finished eighth in the men’s 50m breaststroke final in Bangkok, Thailand.
Dissanayake produced another impressive long-distance swim to finish eighth in the final in 19:09.16, lowering her own previous Sri Lanka Under-17 National Age Group record of 19:13.00, which she had set at the last National Age Group Championship in Colombo.
Thailand’s Chanida Kuanchom claimed the gold medal in 17:49.46, while India’s Dakshajaa Dey Upreti took silver in 18:10.76. Indonesia’s Natalie Sari Raudszus secured the bronze medal with a time of 18:14.16.
Muhammad, one of Sri Lanka’s leading swimmers, finished eighth in the men’s 50m breaststroke final after clocking 29.87 seconds.
Iran’s Alireza Arab won the gold medal in 28.22, while Hong Kong’s Yik Ki Tsui claimed silver in 28.27. Another Hong Kong swimmer, Long Sum Mok, took bronze with 28.53.
