Sadev renews Sri Lanka Youth 200m Record at All Island Schools Games

COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Sadev Vimansa Rajakaruna, an emerging athlete from St. Joseph’s College, Wennappuwa, set a new Sri Lanka Under-18 200m record with a new meet record, clocking 21.42 seconds on the third day of the All Island Schools Games Athletic Championship held at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo yesterday.

Rajakaruna improved his own Sri Lanka Under-18 200m record of 21.52 seconds, which he had set earlier this month during the 92nd Ritzbury Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletic Championship at the same Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

In a thrilling photo-finish, Omel Shashintha from St. Sebastian’s College, Kandana, also broke the previous meet record with a time of 21.63 seconds, earning him the silver medal in the Boys’ Under-18 200m final.

St. Joseph’s Vaz College, Wennappuwa, continued to shine as their Under-16 Boys’ 4x400m relay team set a new meet record with a time of 3:25.53, winning the gold medal. In the Girls’ Under-20 4x400m relay, Lyceum International School, Wattala, set another meet record with a time of 3:53.35.

Lyceum Wattala’s Under-18 Girls’ 4x100m relay team also made history, setting a new meet record of 49.03 seconds.

In the Girls’ Under-16 200m final, Tharani Nirmina from Holy Cross College, Gampaha, broke the meet record, clocking 25.41 seconds. So far, 14 new meet records have been set, with six in boys’ events and eight in girls’. The championship continues today with the fourth day, the penultimate day of the event.
