SWITZERLAND: (ePRESS) – Archer Sajeev de Silva from Racecourse Archery Club scored back-to-back over the minimum qualifying standard for archery at the Olympics in the men’s 70m Recurve event, seizing the gold medal at the 48th Lausanne Challenge in Switzerland on Sunday.
De Silva impressed with a score of 644, surpassing the Paris Olympics standard of 640, outshining Samuel Dugue (627) and Madaye Israel (619).
Earlier, he bagged a silver medal with 646 points at an Indonesian event, meeting the Olympic qualification criteria within the Olympic year, however this is one of the criterias to meet on the route to qualification, athletes will need to win their slot in head to head matches at the Final Olympic Qualifier next month to secure the spot for the country.
Looking ahead, de Silva, alongside Chandana Abeyguansekara, will start on their journey to compete in the final Qualifying Tournament for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The tournament, the Final Qualifying Tournament, starting on June 12 in Antalya, presents the last opportunity for non-qualifying players to secure a direct spot for the Paris Games.
Having met the Olympic qualification standards twice in World Archery registered events within the Olympic year, de Silva aims to clinch direct qualification for the Paris Games through his outstanding performances.
