Asian International School’s Jevahn Sathasivam maintained his stronghold on the Gold Division leaderboard during the second day of the Sri Lanka Junior Amateur Open Golf Championship, proudly sponsored by PRIMA Sunrise Bread. Despite Reshan Algama’s impressive comeback with a stunning gross score of 67, Sathasivam held onto the lead with a total of 140 in an exciting twist at the Royal Colombo Golf Club on Thursday.
Reshan Algama faced unexpected challenges on day one, concluding with a gross 83. However, he staged an incredible turnaround in the second round, playing flawlessly and carding an impressive 67. This stellar performance secured him the fifth position with a total score of 150. Nevertheless, Jevahn Sathasivam, boasting a perfect gross score of 69 on day one, maintained the top spot with a second-round gross of 71 and a total of 140.
Yannik Kuamra secured the second position with the second-best gross score of 69 in the second round, totaling 143 strokes, just behind Jevahn Sathasivam. K Dhanushan delivered a strong second round with a gross score of 68, securing the third place with a total of 144. Jacob Norton, with a day one gross score of 75, scored 72 in the second round, tying with Dhanushan at the third place with a total of 147.
In the girls Gold Division, experienced Kaya Daluwatte claimed the top spot with a total of 144, featuring a gross score of 73. Sherin Balasooriya scored 157 with rounds of 82 and 75, securing the second position, while Aaliyah Laiza Achary of India showcased a remarkable recovery with gross scores of 81 and 78, claiming the third spot.
Adhithya Weerasinghe continued his outstanding form, securing a comprehensive lead in the Silver Division with a total score of 146 strokes (75 in the first round and 71 in the second). Following closely were Keshav Algama with 156 and Kaiyen Johnpillai with 158. Kaiyen Johnpillai notably improved from his first day’s score, claiming the third position at the end of day 2.
In the Silver Girls category, Keya Abhayaratne scored 191, while Aaradhi Samararathna scored 217. Exceptional skills were also on display in the Bronze and Copper categories, showcasing the promising talents of young golfers.
Friday marks the last day of the tournament, promising a grand finale. The awards ceremony, sponsored by PRIMA Sunrise Bread, will commence at 3:30 PM, wrapping up this thrilling golf championship.
