QUEENSLAND, Australia, May 7 (ePRESS) – Sri Lankan triathlete Shane Amarasinghe produced an outstanding performance to win the gold medal in the men’s 25-29 age category at the 2026 Bargara Sprint Distance Triathlon held in Bargara recently, clocking an impressive overall time of one hour, 16 minutes and 10 seconds in a key qualifying event for the Age Group World Triathlon Championship.
The prestigious annual event, organised by the Bargara Triathlon Club together with the Queensland Triathlon Association, attracted competitors representing all states across Australia.
Amarasinghe displayed remarkable endurance and consistency throughout the race to secure the top position in his age category against a strong field of competitors.

He completed the one-kilometre swimming segment in 21 minutes before delivering a strong effort in the demanding 20-kilometre cycling race, which he finished in 36 minutes.
The Sri Lankan athlete then capped off his impressive performance by completing the five-kilometre road run in just 18 minutes to seal the gold medal in style.
The event carried added significance as it also served as a qualifying competition for the upcoming Age Group World Triathlon Championship, making Amarasinghe’s achievement a notable success on the international stage.
