Colombo, Feb 5, 7PM – Sri Lanka Football (SLF) celebrated a historic moment as their new budget sailed through with a majority of votes. This annual budget is special because it’s the first one after the FIFA ban on SLF was lifted, and it marks the beginning of the term for the newly appointed Executive Committee led by President Jaswar Umar.
This year’s budget is a big deal, surpassing one billion rupees. It’s the highest amount ever approved in a meeting like this in the history of Sri Lankan football. The budget has seen a whopping 183 percent increase compared to last year.
Breaking down the numbers, Rs 300 million has been set aside for the development of the national men’s team, Rs 150 million for women’s football development, and Rs 200 million for Youth Football Development.
Jaswar Umar, the President of SLF, expressed his excitement, saying, “We’ve kicked off a well-thought-out journey. We welcome all stakeholders to join hands in this development program for the betterment of the sport.”
To nurture youth football further, SLF has allocated one million rupees annually for each of the 55 affiliated leagues in the country. Additionally, each of the 13 State Institutes will receive Rs 750,000 annually.
In a forward-looking move, SLF has decided to establish a new institution called the Football School. This school aims to enhance school football by organizing coaching courses and other initiatives. The future looks bright for Sri Lankan football with these exciting developments.
