Sri Lanka’s dominance was evident from the outset. Thehan Wijemanne set the tone with a flawless performance, defeating Abdulla Almar 6-0, 6-0 in the singles match. Wijemanne’s aggressive play and consistent serves left Almar with no chance to counter.
Following this, Apna Perera continued the momentum for Sri Lanka. Perera overwhelmed Ahmed Badri with another perfect scoreline, winning 6-0, 6-0. Perera’s precision and agility on the court were too much for Badri to handle, sealing another straightforward win for Sri Lanka.
In the doubles match, the Sri Lankan pair of Kanika Jayathilake and Ashen Silva faced Abdulla Ahmad and Hamad Janahi. Jayathilake and Silva demonstrated excellent teamwork and strategy, winning 6-1, 6-3. Their powerful serves and coordinated movements ensured a comfortable victory, rounding off a perfect day for the Sri Lankan team.
With this win, Sri Lanka advances to the promotional playoff tie, where they will face Kuwait today (Saturday). A victory in this match would promote Sri Lanka to Group III next year.
In the other promotional playoff, Qatar will take on Cambodia. The winners of these ties will earn a place in Group III, marking a significant step up in their Davis Cup journey.
