Sri Lanka-India battle for ATF girls’ title

COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s Bovindi Jithsara and India’s Ungrish Divya advanced to the finals of the Girls’ Singles at the ATF Under-16 Tennis Tournament, which continued at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts in Colombo yesterday.

Jithsara, a student of Bishop’s College, defeated India’s Tejasvi Kotti 6-0, 6-2 to secure her place in the final. In the other semi-final, Divya Ungrish of India won a close match against Sri Lanka’s Yuhansa Peiris, 7-6, 7-5. The final will feature players from Sri Lanka and India.

In the Under-16 Boys’ Third Round, Sri Lanka’s Methika Wickramasinghe won easily against his fellow countryman Tunuka Nanayakkara, 6-0, 6-0. In another match, Sri Lanka’s Sithija Peiris triumphed over India’s Akshath Singh, 5-7, 6-2, 4-1, after Singh retired.
