Colombo, Dec 26, Tue – The Royal Colombo Golf Club witnessed a captivating finale as young golf talents, Jevahn Sathasivam and Kaya Daluwatte, emerged as champions in the Boys and Girls Gold segments, respectively, at the recently concluded Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship 2023.
Organized by Sri Lanka Golf and generously sponsored by Prima Sunrise for the 15th consecutive year, the tournament showcased the prowess of over 100 junior golfers, including enthusiastic participants from India. The competition commenced in a highly competitive environment, creating a platform for budding golf stars to showcase their skills.
Jevahn Sathasivam, maintaining his impressive form since day one, claimed the top spot in the Boys Gold segment with an outstanding score of 210. Yannik Kumara secured the second position with a notable score of 220, while Reshan Algama battled back to secure the third position with a score of 221.
In the Girls Gold segment, Kaya Daluwatte exhibited dominance with her experience from the Indian circuit, securing the first position with a score of 219. Sherine Balasuriya and Aaliya Achary from India secured the second and third positions with scores of 231 and 236, respectively.
The Boys Silver division witnessed Adithya Weerasinghe’s triumph with a score of 226, followed by Keshav Algama in the second position with 233, and Kaiyan Johnpillai claiming the third position with a score of 239.
In the Girls Silver segment, Keya Abhayaratne claimed the top spot with an outstanding score of 291. Araradhi Samararatne secured the second position with a score of 346, and Sithara Lawrence took the third position with a score of 375.
In the Boys division, Lavidu Premarathne clinched the Bronze Medal with a score of 184, followed by Udeera Bandara in the second position with 202, and Yehansa Senanayake in the third position with a score of 207.
For the Girls in the Bronze division, Bhavika Unni from India emerged as the champion with a score of 185. Avighna Unni secured the second position with a score of 186, and Kaitlyn Norton claimed the third spot with a score of 209.
The Copper division for Boys saw Revaan Amarasinghe asserting dominance with an impressive score of 112, followed by Vivian Singh from India in the second position with a score of 114, and Danik Daluwatte securing the third position with a score of 128. In the Girls event, Aasitha Rao of India clinched the first position with a score of 123, followed by Vihara Herath in the second position with 143, and Aashna Amogha from India claiming the third spot with a score of 150.
The dedicated efforts of President of Sri Lanka Golf, Ranil Pieris, and the Junior Development Committee, led by Sri Lanka Golf Junior Sub-Committee Chairperson, veteran golfer Niloo Jayathilake, were instrumental in supporting the junior golfers. The vibrant prize-giving ceremony saw the sponsors, Ceylon Agro Industries and Prima Group, represented by General Manager Sajith Gunaratne, Marketing Manager Himpa Gunawardena, and International Marketing Manager Achala Ramanayake. Their commitment highlights the ongoing success and growth of junior golf in Sri Lanka.
