Colombo, Jan 10, 1PM – Sri Lanka Navy’s Chalitha Pushpika has taken the lead, outperforming 10 top golfers in the Selection Trial for the upcoming Orion Group 37th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship. The championship is set to happen from January 31 to February 3 at the Kurmitola Golf Club in Dhaka.
The two-day selection trial, organized by Sri Lanka Golf, held at the Royal Colombo Golf Club on January 8 and 9. Pushpika showcased an impressive performance, securing a score of 73 on the first day and an even better 69 on the final day. With a total score of 142, he maintained his top position.
Uchitha Ranasingh, the son of golf legend Anura Ranasinghe, secured the second spot with a total score of 144. This included a first-day score of 74 and a second-day score of 70. Certis Lanka’s Chanaka Perera claimed the third position, scoring 77 on the first day and a notable 69 on the second day, totaling 146.
In the closely contested fourth, fifth, and sixth positions were junior golfers Kumar Danushan, Junior Open Champion Jevahn Sathasivam, and Yannik Kumara, each with total scores of 147.
Other participants like Adithya Weerasinghe of Anuradhapura Golf Academy, Roshana Prasad, Kvahn Tejwani, and Janeesh Weerasinghe also displayed their golfing skills during the trial.
The selection process for the 37th edition of the four-day Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship will pick two golfers based on their performances in this trial. Additionally, Sri Lanka Golf has announced that recent performances in overseas tournaments will be taken into consideration.
