Sri Lanka sends strong contingent to Lifesaving Worlds in Gold Coast

COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – National Life Saving Team consist of 10 athletes have departed for the 2024 Lifesaving World Championship, taking place from August 23 to September 9 in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Hosted by Surf Life Saving Queensland and overseen by the International Lifesaving Federation (ILS), this event marks the first full-scale championship since the pandemic began in 2020.

The Sri Lankan boys’ team is captained by Dilanka Shehan and Vice-Captain Sachenda Meegahapalage, while the girls’ team is led by Sineli Rajapakse and Vice-Captained by Vinuki Perera from Musaeus College. The Musaeus College contingent includes four athletes: Vinuki Perera, Sineli Rajapakse, Thenushi Kalawitigoda, and Sandali Sumathipala.

The 19-day competition will feature 440 events across 10 individual championships. Around 6,000 competitors from various categories, including Masters, National Teams, Interclub Teams, Surfboats, and IRBs, will participate in this mega event.
