COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, April 13, 2025 (ePRESS) – Seventeen-year-old Yevan David cannot legally drive a car on the streets just yet. But when he’s behind the wheel of a Formula 3 machine—roaring at speeds over 265 km/h—he looks every bit the part of a future Formula 1 star.
The Sri Lankan racing prodigy has just taken another giant step on his road to the top. David has signed with Germany’s championship-winning Motopark team for the 2025 Euroformula Open season—one of the most competitive junior motorsport series in Europe.
In motorsport terms, Yevan is shifting gears at just the right moment.
“I’m thrilled to join Motopark,” Yevan said. “They have helped many top drivers go to the next level. I hope I can do the same, and make Sri Lanka proud.”
Motopark is not just any team. It has been the launch pad for some of the fastest names in racing, including current Formula 1 drivers Max Verstappen and Yuki Tsunoda. For Yevan, the opportunity is a dream come true—a seat at the table with some of the world’s brightest talents.
Born and raised in Sri Lanka, Yevan’s path has never been easy. Motorsports are still growing in the island nation, and opportunities are few and far between. But talent speaks louder than borders.
With back-to-back titles in the X30 Asian Karting Series, strong performances in the FIA-CIK karting championships, and points finishes in Formula 4 and Eurocup 3, Yevan has shown he’s not just another driver burning rubber—he’s here to win.
At the FIA Motorsport Games, Yevan even started from pole position—becoming the first Sri Lankan to do so at an international motorsport event.
That’s when the racing world truly began to take notice.
No License, No Problem
Ironically, while he’s hurtling down racetracks at top speeds, Yevan is still too young to get a driver’s license in most countries. But that hasn’t slowed him down.
“He may not drive on city streets yet, but give him a race car and he flies,” laughed Motopark team principal Timo Rumpfkeil. “Yevan has raw speed, great work ethic, and a deep hunger to learn. We believe he’ll be a real contender this season.”
Yevan’s journey is also powered by the faith of his supporters back home. Merc Stop, Alcom, Dayholi, and the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC) have all thrown their weight behind the young star, backing his European campaign.
“He’s carrying our flag,” said a CMSC official. “And we believe he can plant it on the podium.”
A New Season, A New Test
The 2025 Euroformula Open calendar will push Yevan to the limit. He’ll race at world-famous circuits like Spa-Francorchamps, Monza, Barcelona, and Red Bull Ring. These are the same tracks that have tested the nerves of F1 legends.
The season begins at Portimao, Portugal, on April 27. It will include 24 races across eight weekends—each more demanding than the last.
And Yevan will need to hit the ground running.
In a sport where one small mistake can cost you the race, every lap counts. But with Motopark’s support, and his hands firmly on the wheel, Yevan is hoping to shift his career into high gear.
While most teens his age are studying for school exams or hanging out with friends, Yevan is studying lap times, perfecting his racing lines, and chasing milliseconds.
“I want to show young people in Sri Lanka and Asia that anything is possible,” he said. “Motorsport is tough, but if you give it everything, the doors will open.”
He’s already opened a few.
And come 2025, as engines roar across Europe, the world will be watching a 17-year-old from Sri Lanka take on the best. He’s not just chasing the chequered flag—he’s racing into history.
