Colombo, Jan 11, 12.10PM – Chalitha Pushpika from the Sri Lanka Navy and Uchitha Ranasinghe of Royal Colombo Golf Club are preparing  to proudly represent Sri Lanka in the upcoming Orion Group 37th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship. The highly-anticipated tournament is scheduled to commence from January 31 to February 3 at the Kurmitola Golf Club in Dhaka, as officially disclosed by Sri Lanka Golf in an announcement made  on Thursday.

Chalitha Pushpika solidified his spot by emerging as the leader in the intense two-day selection trial conducted by Sri Lanka Golf on January 8 and 9. His stellar performance, boasting impressive gross scores of 73 and 69, coupled with notable success on the international stage, secured him the top spot in the trial.

“Chalitha’s outstanding trial performance, combined with his recent achievements in Malaysia where he clinched two 11th place finishes, rightfully earned him a coveted spot in the team heading to Bangladesh,” declared Sri Lanka Golf.

Uchitha Ranasinghe, securing second place in the trial with scores of 74 and 70, has also earned a well-deserved spot for the upcoming championship. His commendable performance in the Saujana Amateur Golf Championship last month, where he secured a 35th position, likely played a pivotal role in his selection.

“Uchitha Ranasinghe’s second-place finish in the trial, along with his accomplishments in the Saujana Amateur Championship and the November NRT, secured him the second spot in the team,” affirmed Sri Lanka Golf.

The Orion Group Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship, under the auspices of Bangladesh Golf Federation, stands as the premier amateur world-ranked international golf tournament in the country. Originating in 1982 and hosted by Kurmitola Golf Club, this year marks the sixth occasion where the Orion Group of Companies sponsors the prestigious tournament.

The competition will witness top amateur golfers hailing from various countries, including India, Bhutan, Australia, Pakistan, Malaysia, Nepal, South Korea, Indonesia, and the host country Bangladesh, showcasing their golfing prowess in what promises to be an exhilarating and competitive event.
