Sri Lanka’s junior teams clinch victory, set sights on quarter-finals

Colombo, Feb 14, 7.40PM – Sri Lanka’s Under-14 junior boys and girls team displayed outstanding performance against Lebanon at the ITF World Junior Asia/Oceania Pre Qualifying Tournament hosted by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association at SLTA courts.

The young talents, including Ashlin de Silva, Akesha Silva, and Sandithi Usgodaarachchi, excelled in both singles and doubles events, securing victories in their matches.

In the boys’ category, Sri Lanka faced Lebanon, with the Sri Lankan team emerging victorious with a score of 2/1. Despite a tough battle in the first singles match where Ekefteriades Yann from Lebanon defeated Risith Somaratna from Sri Lanka with a score of 3/6, 6/3, 7/6, Ashlin De Silva brought a swift victory to Sri Lanka by defeating Christophe Abou Hachem from Lebanon with a score of 6/1, 6/2 in the second singles match. In the first doubles match, Mayoorsn Kubheran and Ashlin De Silva from Sri Lanka triumphed over Elias Abou Rahal and Ekefteriades Yann from Lebanon with a score of 6/2, 6/4.

Similarly, in the girls’ category, Sri Lanka faced Kyrgyzstan, securing another victory with a score of 2/1. Despite a strong performance from Saara Myzaeva from Kyrgyzstan who defeated Sandithi Usgodaarachchi from Sri Lanka with a score of 6/4, 6/4 in the first singles match, Akesha Silva from Sri Lanka turned the tide by defeating Eva Gavshina from Kyrgyzstan with a score of 7/6, 6/4 in the second singles match. In the first doubles match, Sandithi Usgodaarachchi and Akesha Silva from Sri Lanka dominated over Anel Bogdanova and Saara Myzaeva from Kyrgyzstan with a score of 6/1, 6/2.

With these impressive performances, both the Sri Lankan boys and girls teams have secured their spots in the quarter-finals, set to take place on Thursday.
