Sri Lanka’s tennis talents shine: Junior girls net final qualifying round berth

Colombo, Feb 23, 6PM – In a stellar performance, the Sri Lanka junior girls’ tennis team secured a spot in the final Qualifying Round of the Billie Jean Cup Junior/Junior Davis Cup Asia Oceania Pre-qualifying Tennis Tournament. They clinched victory over Turkmenistan with a 2-0 win in the semi-final at the SLTA courts in Colombo.

In the 1st singles match, Ivanka Samarasinghe (Sri Lanka) dominated with a scoreline of 6/1 6/1 against Sabrina Rahamanova (Turkmenistan). Following suit, Dinara De Silva (Sri Lanka) secured a convincing 6/0 6/1 win over Ilima Guseyanova (Turkmenistan) in the 2nd singles.

The Sri Lankan junior girls will now face the Philippines in the finals at the SLTA courts on Saturday. Both finalists have earned the opportunity to compete in the final Qualifying Round of the Billie Jean Cup/Junior Davis Cup scheduled to take place in Kazakhstan from May 13 to 17.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ category, Jordan emerged victorious against Singapore in the 1st semi-final with a 2-0 win, while Iran triumphed over Lebanon in the 2nd semi-final with a 2-1 score. The boys’ final will feature an intense battle between Iran and Jordan today.

The journey continues for the Sri Lanka junior girls as they qualify for the final Qualifying Round set to be held in Kazakhstan from May 13 to 17. Joining them in the final Qualifying Round are Kyrgyzstan girls and Sri Lanka girls, along with Jordan and Iran boys.
