Colombo, Feb 11, 9.30AM – Kithmi Marambe, the Captain of the Girls’ National Diving Team dove to victory and won the only silver medal in the Sri Lanka team which earned 14 medals (10 swimming, 2 diving and 2 water polo) at the concluded BIMSTEC Youth Aquatic Championship at the Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool Complex in New Delhi and they returned home on Saturday.
Marambe of Bishop’s College, during the 1 Meter Springboard event secured the First and Only Silver Medal for the Nation. Alongside her, Vinudi Kankanamge of Visakha Vidyalaya managed to place 3rd in the Womens’ 3 Meter Springboard event and Sri Lanka girls diving team won two medals.
The three-day event dominated by the Indian Divers who were closely followed by the Thailand team. Despite this, Kithmi Marambe broke through the mould and placed second in the aforementioned event. Marking her first win in an international setting.
It is also important to note that Kithmi Marambe is the current National Champion for two consecutive years at the National Diving Championship. Additionally, she has also been crowned the Best Diver in her Age group at the All-Island Age Group Diving Championship and the National Age Group Diving Championship since she began Diving.
She also has represented Sri Lanka in the Hong Kong Age Group Diving Championship.
