COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – For the upcoming 38th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship (BAGC), Sri Lanka is sending a talented group of players to represent the nation. Among them is Jacob Norton of Stafford International School, making his international amateur debut, alongside the seasoned amateur golfer Chalitha Pushpika, a prominent amateur golfer from the Sri Lanka Navy. Both have been selected by Sri Lanka Golf to compete in the four-day event, scheduled from January 9 to 12, 2025, at the Kurmitola Golf Club in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The players are scheduled for a crucial practice round on January 8 to familiarize themselves with the course and prepare for the competition ahead.
With years of experience in international tournaments, Pushpika, who has represented Sri Lanka in various international amateur events, is a key figure on the team. Last year, he participated in the 37th Orion Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship, where he finished an impressive sixth on the leaderboard, showcasing his skill and consistency.
On the other hand, Jacob Norton, at just 16 years old, is a rising star in Sri Lankan golf. He made a name for himself last year when he excelled at Sri Lanka’s amateur championship, and now he’s set to take on his first international amateur challenge. As a junior golfer, Jacob’s inclusion in the team is a proof to his potential and ability. The BAGC will serve as an important milestone in his career, providing him with exposure to a higher level of competition on the international course.
While Norton and Pushpika are representing Sri Lanka Golf, another experienced golfer, Chanaka Perera, will join the event as a private entry. Perera’s involvement brings further experience to the team, complementing the younger and newer talent in the group.
