COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – St. Sylvester’s College Kandy made history by winning the Stubbs Shield Championship for the fourth consecutive time and the 18th time overall, concluding the 105th Stubbs Shield Championship at the Royal MAS Arena yesterday.
The Sylvestrians excelled by earning four gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze, firmly securing the championship title. Their impressive performance outshone Royal College Colombo, who finished as the runners-up in the tournament.
In a notable individual achievement, Royal Boxing Captain Thenuwan Meegalle was awarded the Best Boxer title while Chathurika Siriwardena of Hemamali Girls College Kandy was honoured as the Best Boxer in girls division for their outstanding performance throughout the competition.
The event was organized as part of the All Island National School Games by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Schools Boxing Association. It attracted nearly 500 young boxers from 132 schools, competing across 36 weight classes and three age divisions.
St. Sylvester’s College’s continued success at the Stubbs Shield reflects their commitment to excellence in boxing under coach Jamitha Gayan, and their latest victory adds to their storied legacy in the sport.
