COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Reshan Algama, the reigning Club Champion, displayed his dominance with a convincing win against Rusi Captain in the ongoing 103rd Royal Colombo Golf Club’s Club Championship, held at the RCGC course in Colombo.

The 15-year-old Algama secured a resounding victory over the legendary 16-time Club Champion, Rusi Captain, clinching the match on the 13th hole, going seven up with five holes remaining.

Yannik Kumara, a multiple-time club champion, delivered a masterclass in competitive golf, defeating Armand Flema Caldera. Kumara sealed his win on the 12th hole with an impressive eight and seven margin, leaving no doubt about his intentions in this year’s championship.

The competition continued to thrill as past club champion and highly talented golfer, Sachin de Silva, overcame former RCGC President and Captain in an intensely contested match. De Silva’s experience and skill proved too much for his seasoned opponent, adding another impressive win to his distinguished record.

In a closely fought battle, Suhaib Sangani emerged victorious against Prashan Peiris, winning 3/2. Sangani’s steady play and strategic approach earned him a well-deserved place in the next round.

One of the standout moments of the day was the performance of Thejas Rathis Kanth, the youngest participant in the championship. Kanth pushed his more experienced opponent, Jevahn Sathasivam, to the brink, taking the match to the 18th hole before narrowly losing on the final hole. His performance was a testament to the promising future that lies ahead for this young golfer.

Vinuda Weerasinghe also impressed with a 3/1 win over newcomer Sanjula de Silva. Weerasinghe’s consistent play and composure under pressure were key factors in his success.
