COLOMBO, May 28 (ePRESS) – Professional golfer N. Thangaraja produced a superb five-under-par 66 to storm into the lead after the third round of the Sri Lanka Open Championship 2026 currently in progress at the Royal Colombo Golf Club in Colombo yesterday.
The experienced campaigner displayed outstanding consistency and accuracy on the par-71 course to finish with an impressive aggregate score of 202, opening up a three-shot lead over overnight leader Mithun Perera heading into the final round of the prestigious championship.
Mithun, who held the lead after the second round, carded an even-par 70 to slip to second place with a total score of 205, while junior golfer Reshan Algama also returned a steady 70 to remain strongly in contention in third place on 206.
Amateur golfer Haroon Aslam continued his fine run with another level-par 70 to share fourth place on 210 alongside experienced professionals Vijitha Bandara and Anura Rohana, who both carded one-over-par 71s.
B.G. Lalith Kumara produced one of the best rounds of the day with a brilliant four-under-par 67 to move into seventh place together with N. Amarapadma on 213 overall.
Navy professional golfer Chalitha Pushpika occupied ninth place on 216 after a third-round 74, while Sachin De Silva followed closely in tenth position on 217 despite also returning a 74.
Junior Jacob Norton was placed 11th on 221 after shooting 72, while Adhithya Weerasinghe finished 12th on 222 with a third-round score of 73.
Teaching pro Priya Hemantha carded 73 to occupy 13th place on 223, while B.A. Sanjeewa climbed to 14th position on 224 after producing a solid 71.
JMD Indika struggled with a 76 to finish on 227, while women’s golfer Kaya Daluwatte slipped further down the leaderboard after returning an 81 for a total of 228.
T. Deshan and Binupa Wijesinghe shared 17th place on 230, while Harsha Rukman Warnakulasooriyage and Vinoth Kumar were tied on 233.
Sasi Nathan and Lavidu Premarathna completed the field on 234 overall as the championship moved towards an exciting final round at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.
