Colombo, Jan 1, Mon – In a thrilling showcase of intellect and strategy, Thisal Manjula of Dharmasoka College and Sachintha Kodikara of ICBT Campus emerged victorious in the Under-19 National Youth Chess Championship. The competition, held at Dharmapala Vidyalaya in Pannipitiya from December 27 to 30, witnessed intense battles on the chessboard.
Thisal Manjula displayed exceptional skills, claiming the championship title in the Under-19 Boys category by scoring an impressive 7 out of 8 points. The first runner-up position went to Samadhith Tennakoon of Dharmaraja College, while Ometh Benthararaachchi of Nalanda College secured the second runner-up position with superior tiebreaks.
In the girls’ Under-19 category, Sachintha Kodikara of ICBT Campus emerged as the champion with a score of 6.5 out of 8 points in a competition involving 12 participants over eight rounds. Udani Samarakoon of Mahamaya Girls College secured the first runner-up position, and Thenugi Jayasinghe of Visakha Vidyalaya claimed the second runner-up spot with a superior tiebreaker.
The awarding ceremony, graced by Luxman Wijesuriya, President of the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, and the Executive Committee Members.
