COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Dulwan Jayaratne, a member of the National Karate Squad and an international medalist for Sri Lanka, continues to shine as a leading karateka. The Thurstan College Colombo karate captain has established himself as a prominent figure in Sri Lankan karate.
Jayaratne first made his mark at the 5th South Asian Karate Championship in Bangladesh in 2019, where he earned a bronze medal in the kata category. He then competed in the 6th South Asian Karate Championship held in Sri Lanka, winning a silver medal in kumite.
In 2023, Jayaratne secured another bronze medal in kumite at the 7th South Asian Karate Championship in Nepal. His impressive record also includes bronze medals in the kata category at the All Island Schools Games in both 2022 and 2023.
Since 2017, Jayaratne has consistently excelled at the National Karate Championships. He won three consecutive gold medals from 2017 to 2019, followed by a silver in 2020. After a pandemic-induced pause in 2021, he returned to claim a gold medal in 2022 and a silver in 2023.
