Colombo, Feb 15, 7.15PM – Sri Lanka’s junior tennis teams, comprising Risith Somaratne and Ashlin de Silva for the boys, and Sandithi Usgodaarachchi and Akesha Silva for the girls, secured victories over Myanmar and Pacific Oceania, propelling them into the semi-finals of the ITF World Junior Tennis Asia Oceania Pre-Qualifying Tournament held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts in Colombo.
In the girls’ quarter-finals match against Pacific Oceania, Sri Lanka emerged triumphant with a 2-0 victory. Sandithi Usgodaarachchi of Sri Lanka defeated Alexandria Chand of Pacific Oceania with a score of 6-1, 6-1 in the first singles match, while Akesha Silva of Sri Lanka secured another win by defeating Colita Hakena of Pacific Oceania with a score of 6-1, 6-2 in the second singles match.
In the boys’ match against Myanmar, Sri Lanka also dominated with a 2-0 win. Risith Somaratna of Sri Lanka clinched victory in the first singles match against Dar Woo of Myanmar with a score of 3-6, 7-5, 7-6. Ashlin De Silva of Sri Lanka followed suit by defeating Phee Sar Sei of Myanmar with a score of 7-6, 6-1 in the second singles match.
As both the Sri Lankan boys and girls won their respective singles matches, they secured a spot in the semi-finals without the need to play doubles. The semi-final matches are scheduled to take place on Friday.
