COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Dacshitha Sumathipala has been elected as the President of Saunders Sports Club for the 2024-2025 term during the club’s 106th Annual General Meeting, which took place on Saturday at Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel. Sumathipala, who is also the President of the Anuradhapura Football League and a former candidate for the Sri Lanka Football election, now leads one of Sri Lanka’s most historic football clubs.
Supporting Sumathipala in his leadership are Vice Presidents VC Park, Andrew Molit, and Mohamed Najibdeen. The club’s General Secretary role has been entrusted to Sumith Walpola, with Jagath Rohana as the Assistant Secretary. Isuru Perera has been appointed Treasurer, with Mahela Bandara assisting him.
During the event, tokens of appreciation were presented to individuals who have significantly contributed to the club over the years. Among the honorees were Rizmi Reyal, Ajantha Liyanage, Jayasinghe Mendis, and L.H. Piyasena.
In his address, President Dacshitha Sumathipala emphasized the rich legacy of Saunders Sports Club, highlighting its history of achievements and dedication to football. He outlined his vision for the club’s future, focusing on youth development, community engagement, and competitive excellence. Sumathipala called for unity and collective effort from players, coaches, members, and supporters to elevate the club to new heights.
“We must build on our storied history and take this club to even greater heights,” Sumathipala stated. He expressed his commitment to leading the club with integrity and transparency, ensuring that every decision made benefits Saunders Sports Club. Sumathipala also paid tribute to the previous leaders, acknowledging their role in laying the foundation for future success.
The newly elected president concluded his speech with a call to action, urging everyone involved with the club to work together to make Saunders Sports Club a symbol of football excellence and community pride.
