RATHMALANA, May 11 (ePRESS) – Shamil Wakeel and Ifra Shasmin Booso emerged as the top performers at the Sri Lanka Squash 45th Anniversary Squash Championship 2026, winning the Men’s Open and Women’s Open titles respectively at the championship concluded at the Air Force Squash Complex on Sunday.
Wakeel clinched the Men’s Open crown ahead of runner-up Ushama MAM of the Sri Lanka Air Force, while M. Hakeem of the Sri Lanka Air Force secured third place. In the Women’s Open category, St. Paul’s Girls’ School Milagiriya player Booso lifted the title with RI Wood finishing runner-up and Nadindi Udangawa taking third place.
In the Boys’ Under-19 category, Matheesha Wijesekara of Royal College won the championship, while Mohamed Rilwan of St. Joseph’s College Maradana finished runner-up and Tharul Pinwatta of Royal College claimed third place.
Nethmi Wickramasinghe of Ladies’ College captured the Girls’ Under-19 title ahead of Sithumli Ruhansa Mendis of Gateway College, while Kavithma Senomi Silva of Musaeus College finished third.
Gateway College’s Manuth Sandira Dassanayake won the Boys’ Under-17 title with K. Linuka Nimnath Silva of D. S. Senanayake College emerging runner-up and Ranuka Pilapitiya of Royal College finishing third. In the Girls’ Under-17 event, Ifra Shasmin Booso added another title to her campaign by finishing ahead of VS Dinithma Mihely and Thedara Liyanage, both of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya.
Nevan Rubasinghe of Royal College won the Boys’ Under-15 title defeating Disas Subasinghe of D. S. Senanayake College in the final, while Thisandu Gunasekara of Mahanama College finished third. Chanumi Nimthara Thebuwena of Gateway College secured the Girls’ Under-15 crown ahead of HM Methuki Nulara Herath and VS Dinithma Mihely.
In the Under-13 division, Danuja Sethsara Jayasinghe of Ananda Sastralaya won the Boys’ title with WP Kenula Hirusara of D. S. Senanayake College taking second place and Kenol Mayon Wickrama of Sumedha College Gampaha finishing third. Nethanya Chathlini Wickramasinghe of Ladies’ College claimed the Girls’ Under-13 championship ahead of UK Dheerya Mithali Silva of Visakha Vidyalaya and Livini Jayawardana of Visakha Vidyalaya.
In the Under-11 category, WP Kenula Hirusara of D. S. Senanayake College and Sayuri De Silva of Ladies’ College emerged boys’ and girls’ champions respectively. Mohamed Sudaiq Shiraz of The British School Colombo and H.W. Dasidu Yugeeth Githmal of Mahanama College secured second and third places in the boys’ division, while Dinara Damsiluni Amarasinghe and LH Sanuki Okithma Liyanahetti of Visakha Vidyalaya finished second and third in the girls’ division.
M. Shoaib Zain Dean of D. S. Senanayake College won the Boys’ Under-9 title ahead of Abinu Aken Lwangama of The British School Colombo and Jevon Danial Rajkumar of St. Joseph’s College Colombo. Swyree De Silva of Ladies’ College clinched the Girls’ Under-9 championship with IJ Nuthara Geli Dassanayake and Mineli Nesakya Thilakaratne of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya finishing second and third respectively.
In the novice categories, Enara Perera of Ladies’ College and Zion Weerakkody of St. Joseph’s College Colombo won the Girls’ and Boys’ Under-11 novice titles respectively. Y. Tiyana Munasinghe of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya and UG Danuka Jayarathne of Sumedha College Gampaha captured the Girls’ and Boys’ Under-15 novice championships.
NMU Niroshan Bandara won the Men’s Novices title ahead of Chinthaka Tharanga and Ridmika. In the Masters categories, MAM Ushama of Sri Lanka Air Force won the Men’s Over-35 title, Anura Hewage claimed the Men’s Over-40 championship, Nishantha Chandrakumara secured the Men’s Over-50 title and Mevan Rajeeva emerged champion in the Men’s Over-55 category.
