COLOMBO, Jan 15, 5.50PM – The Srixon RCGC Junior Open Golf Championship concluded last week at the Royal Colombo Golf Club, witnessing outstanding performances from promising young golfers. Among the standout players were Adithya Weerasinghe and Keya Abhayaratne, who claimed the top spots in the Under-15 Boys and Girls Silver Division.
In the boys’ category, Weerasinghe, representing the Anuradhapura Golf Academy, displayed remarkable skills over the 18 holes. He scored 79 and 76 in the initial rounds and capped off the tournament with an impressive 69 on the final day, bringing his total to 224. Weerasinghe’s stellar performance secured the first-place finish, leaving Keshav Algama in second place with a total score of 238 (79, 80, 79). T Deshan secured the third spot with a score of 241 (77, 84, 80).
On the girls’ side, Keya Abhayaratne showcased her golfing prowess, posting a total score of 313 (105, 105, 103). Abhayaratne’s consistent play gave her a significant lead over the second-place finisher, Aaradhi Samararatne, who scored 338 (117, 113, 108). Lorence Sithara Dedunu from Victoria Golf Club carded 341 (109, 114, 118) to secure the third spot.
The Silver Division leaderboard featured impressive performances from other young talents, including Kaiyan Johnpillai (245), Ayaan Gunasekera (251), and Varun Fernando (251). These budding golfers showcased their skills in a competition that included Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Copper Divisions.
The Srixon RCGC Junior Open Golf Championship not only highlighted the emerging talents in junior golf but also celebrated the spirit of competition and sportsmanship among the young golf enthusiasts.
