CAMBODIA: (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s Davis Cup team had mixed fortunes on the opening day of their Pool ‘A’ tie against Qatar in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group IV competition, held at the National Heritage Stadium Tennis Centre in Cambodia.
The Sri Lankan duo, Thehan Wijemanne and captain Harshana Godamanne, secured a victory in the Men’s Doubles match. They defeated Qatar’s Mossa Alhar and Mashari Nawaf with a score of 6-4, 6-2.
Despite this win, Sri Lanka faced defeats in the Men’s Singles matches. Apna Perera was beaten by Mubarak Shan, with a scoreline of 3-6, 1-6. Additionally, Ashen Silva lost to Rashed Nawaf, 4-6, 3-6.
As a result, Qatar won the tie 2-1. Sri Lanka now faces a crucial match against Kyrgyzstan today, which they must win to stay in the competition.
