Monza, ITALY: (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka’s 17-year-old motor racing star, Yevan David, has made history by winning the weekend’s Formula Euro Championship in Italy. The young driver clinched two prestigious titles, including the Rookie Driver Award and the Championship itself, after a gripping final race.
David’s victory came in dramatic fashion as he narrowly defeated Brazil’s Fernando Barichelo by just 0.5 seconds, securing his second race win of the competition. This thrilling finish saw David rise from 5th on the starting grid, thanks to the Reverse Grid system, but his clever strategy and flawless execution led him to victory.
“This is beyond my dreams,” said David, whose performance stunned the motorsport world. His first win came in the opening race of the weekend on October 19, where he also outperformed more experienced drivers, including Fernando Barichelo, the son of Formula 1 legend Rubens Barrichello.
“I am over the moon with this victory. It’s a dream come true to represent Sri Lanka on such a big stage. This win is for my country, my team, and everyone who believed in me,” Yevan David said.
David’s success marks another milestone for Sri Lanka in motorsport, as he becomes the first Sri Lankan to ever participate in the Euroformula series. The triumphs have placed David firmly on the map of emerging international motorsport stars.
As the national anthem played for the second time, David stood proudly on the podium, draped in the Sri Lankan flag, a moment of pure pride for his country. His victories in the competition highlight not only his immense talent but also his potential to make a lasting impact in the motor racing track.
David’s journey from Formula 4 to the prestigious Euroformula Championship is evidence to his dedication and hard work, and this victory is just the beginning of what promises to be a brilliant career.
