JAFFNA: (ePRESS) – Shantal de Silva from Asian International School has emerged as the Best Paddler in two age categories, winning four gold medals at the 8th Canoeing Sprint National Championship, which was organized by the National Association of Canoeing and Kayaking in Sri Lanka and sponsored by the Sri Lanka Navy at Mandathiv Island in the Jaffna Peninsula.
Competing in the Under-18 girls’ K1 events, Shantal secured three gold medals in the 200m, 500m, and 1000m races. She clocked impressive times of 1:01.90 in the 200m, 3:00.48 in the 500m, and 6:22.87 in the 1000m events.
In addition, she claimed the gold medal in the 200m K2 event for the Under-23 Women category with a time of 1:10.00, showcasing her dominance in the sport.
The tournament featured four age groups—Under-16, Under-18, Under-21, and Under-23—alongside Open Men and Women categories, as well as School’s Dragon Boat events, attracting a total of 480 athletes.
