Kithma’s blitz powers Sri Lanka U-17 in draw vs Bangladesh

GALLE: (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka Under-17 captain Kithma Vidanayapathirana played a stunning knock of 164 runs off 132 balls, with 11 fours and 9 sixes, to lead Sri Lanka’s strong showing in their drawn three-day match against Bangladesh U-17 at the Galle International Cricket Stadium yesterday.

Vidanayapathirana’s aggressive innings came at a remarkable strike rate of 124.24 and was the highlight of Sri Lanka’s second innings total of 317/7 declared.

In support, No. 3 batter Senuja Wekunagoda contributed a solid half-century, scoring 80 runs, as Sri Lanka dominated the day’s play.

Earlier, Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 285/8 declared, built around Jason Fernando’s gritty 98 runs, put them in a strong position. Bangladesh fought back with a resilient 252 all out, largely thanks to Adrito Ghosh’s patient 133 not out. Despite their efforts, Bangladesh could not capitalize on the final session, ending at 51/4 in their second innings.

Sri Lanka’s spinners, Rasith Nimsara (4-55) and Vigneshwaran Akash (1-8), played key roles in limiting Bangladesh’s progress. The match concluded in a draw, with both teams showing promise.
