COLOMBO: (ePRESS) – Sri Lanka Cricket has appointed former South African batsman Neil McKenzie as the Consultant Coach for the national team ahead of their upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa. McKenzie, who accumulated nearly 5,000 international runs for South Africa, will assist the Sri Lankan players during a pre-series camp in South Africa from November 13 to 21.
The camp is designed to help the Sri Lankan team adapt to the challenging South African conditions, with McKenzie expected to provide valuable insights. “McKenzie will bring in vital, in-depth insights about the South African conditions to help Sri Lankan players adapt to the challenge,” said Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket.
The upcoming Test series, part of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship cycle, is crucial for Sri Lanka’s hopes of qualifying for the WTC final. The first Test will be held from November 27 to December 1 at Kingsmead, Durban, while the second Test will take place from December 5 to 9 at St. George’s Park, Gqeberha.
The following players will be part of the Sri Lankan squad for the pre-series camp: Dhananjaya De Silva, Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Lahiru Kumara, Prabath Jayasuriya, Nishan Peiris, Milan Rathnayake, Kasun Rajitha, and Lasith Embuldeniya.
